Every year on the 8th of August we celebrate the brave, pioneering women of 1956.
These women challenged the injustices of their time and sacrificed their freedom so that we may have the rights and freedoms we enjoy today.
While many gains have been made, our society still has a long way to go to fully realise the dreams of the women of 1956.
61 years later, a few Stellenbosch women have shared a message of encouragement to commemorate this day.
Teaching, beauty-pageantry and film-making are just some of the skills these women possess.
They have made an impact in the Stellenbosch community through service, excellence and many other endeavours. – Welile Makena
