Stellenbosch University (SU) student Bevin Davids, who landed a spot in Via TV’s reality show Trap! Dis My Huis!, will also feature in Kom ons Kamp another reality show which is due to air on 28 April.

Davids studied BA (Humanities) at SU, but has long dreamt of life in the entertainment industry. He auditioned for a role in 7de Laan in 2017, but did not get selected. After being turned down, he did not go to any other auditions, but rather focused on his studies.

“My studies have always been a priority to me,” Davids said. He is now completing his Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at SU.

According to Davids, his first audition broke his confidence.

“When I received the email that I was a part of the cast of the reality show [Trap! Dis My Huis!] I cried because of joy,” said Davids. “It has opened many doors for me.”

The breakthrough with Trap! Dis My Huis! has given Davids the confidence to audition for other shows too, he said. He will also feature in Kom Ons Kamp later this month.

Filming Kom Ons Kamp required Davids to make academic sacrifices. Davids missed out on tests and assignments because he was on set filming for three to four days at a time, he said.

His mother, Beverly Davids, believes he is a role model for his younger siblings.

“Bevin is the eldest son, he is setting a great example for his sister to achieve her dreams,” said Davids.

According to Veronique Farmer, a fan of the reality show, Davids played the game well in the reality show as he initially distanced himself. He was also liked in the house and therefore became a threat.

Davids made it into the Top 12 of Trap! Dis My Huis!, which saw 50 strangers sharing a two-bedroom house. The contestants competed for R1 000 000.

“I enjoyed Trap! Dis My Huis! very much. I am looking forward to [Kom Ons Kamp],” said Farmer.
