This weekend saw the curtain come down on Woordfees 2019, with one of the highlights of the festival – The Stellenbosch Street Soirée – concluding Saturday’s events.
The event, hosted by the Stellenbosch Wine Route, showcases some of the best wines across the Cape, with entertainment and good food adding to what’s considered a favourite amongst socialites in the Bosch.
Here are some of the many reasons why you should add this to your calendar;
The wine, of course
Some of Stellenbosch’s most renowned wine farms set up stalls at the Soirée, giving you a wide array of tasting options to delight your palate.
“Favourite part? The wine tasting for sure!”
– Precious Jou, a tourist from Nigeria on holiday in South Africa.
Delicious street food
The smell of the food in the air is enough to entice you into grabbing some of the amazing street food on the menu. If you forgot your wallet – don’t stress. Some of the vendors offer free tastings, that will leave you wanting more.
“White cherry and onion bread, traditional pork pie, cannelai and red fig.”
Gareth Goliath from Joostenberg Bistro describes some of the tantalising food available.
Live music
The band brings the whole event together, providing vibey tunes to keep your feet tapping – and if you’ve had enough wine – dancing.
Style savants
Dress to impress, as some of Stellenbosch’s most stylish strut their stuff, adding to the cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Young or old, it doesn’t matter
The myriad of ages adds to the diverse crowd that gathers at this event. Families, friends, couples – you’ll find them all. The tastings are reserved to those over the age of 18.
A beautiful setting
The event takes place beneath the soaring oaks on Ryneveld Street. Take in all the ambiance as the sun sets behind some of the town’s most beautiful buildings.
Budget-friendly
It’s free to enter the event. However, R120 gets you a ticket, 12 wine tasting coupons and a wine glass.
The Stellenbosch Street Soirée runs throughout the summer season on a bi-monthly basis up until March.
