After today’s breaking news that the Ster-Kinekor in Eikestad Mall has closed all business operations, Sportsmans Warehouse released a statement confirming the group will open a store in Eikestad Mall.
Lynne Wylie, national marketing manager of Ster-Kinekor, explained the closure to MatieMedia in an e-mailed statement.
The statement reads as follows:
“Ster-Kinekor’s Eikestad Mall cinema in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, has officially closed. The cinema’s last trading was yesterday, Wednesday, 28 February 2018.”
“Ster-Kinekor had been in negotiations with the Landlord at Eikestad who indicated that they needed the space for an alternative retailer. It is with great regret that we were notified that our lease was therefore not to be renewed. This is an unfortunate circumstance and left us with no alternative but to close the cinema.”
“However, Ster-Kinekor continues to operate in the surrounding areas and movie lovers are encouraged to visit either Cape Gate Mall or Somerset Mall.”
Sportsmans Warehouse released a statement following information suggesting that they would fill the vacant space with Stellenbosch’s first branch of the sports and fitness goods supplier.
Johan Strydom, chief executive of Moresport e-commerce, the company that owns the Sportsmans Warehouse franchise, stated the following in an e-mailed statement:
“Yes, I can confirm Sportsmans Warehouse is indeed planning to open a store in Stellenbosch in the Eikestad Mall to better serve our loyal customer base in the area. The expectation is that we will be open from the second half of the year – possibly around September.”
